Special Assistance

Unaccompanied Minors

Children from the ages of 8 to 11 who are travelling alone are considered to be “unaccompanied minors”.

To book an unaccompanied minor ticket, please call our Customer Care and Reservations team at 1.800.563.2800.

Prior to travel, the child traveling must be checked in for their flight by an accompanying adult. This adult must provide photo ID, complete the unaccompanied minor form at the check in counter, and remain in the terminal until the flight the child is on is airborne.

PAL Airlines does not accept Unaccompanied Minors for connecting flights or for any flights that require a layover.

The child will be in the care of our flight crew member until the flight arrives at the destination, or in event of flight interruption, the child will be in care of a designated Customer Service Representative. At final destination, a Customer Service Representative will escort the child into the airport to meet the authorized individual who is picking up the child. The authorized adult receiving the child must have a valid ID that matches the information on the completed Unaccompanied Minor form.

There is a service charge of $35 plus additional provincial taxes ($35 – $40.25) per direction for each Unaccompanied Minor.

Your child’s safety is our priority. Therefore, we cannot accept unaccompanied minors on flights where a weather advisory has been issued for the arrival destination. Once the weather advisory is lifted, we will gladly rebook your child for the next available flight.

Please refer to our Unaccompanied Minor Rule located in the applicable tariff for detailed information and restrictions.

Traveling with an Infant

Children under the age of two (2) fly on PAL Airlines without charge as long as they are traveling with a fare-paying adult and must sit on that adult’s lap for the duration of the flight. The infant must be held during taxi, takeoff, landing, and whenever the seat belt sign is illuminated.

Note that only one infant can travel on PAL Airlines with each adult fare paying customer. Transport Canada Regulations state that children two (2) years or older must occupy their own seat.

Seating of infants under the age of 2 years:

Seat selection is not required for infants who are held on a lap of an adult over 16.

  • You will be required to hold your infant on your lap during taxi, take-off, landing, at any time the seat belt sign is illuminated, and at any time you are instructed to do so by the flight crew.
  • Infants must be lap-held by the accompanying guest 16 years of age or older, or secured using a car seat for the duration of the flight.
  • Transport Canada mandates that infants are not permitted in the emergency exit row, and that no person shall be responsible for more than one (1) infant (any child under 2 years of age) on board.

Seating of Children

PAL Airlines will, at no extra cost and at the earliest opportunity, help seat children under the age of 14 near their parent, guardian or tutor. The proximity depends on the age of the child:

  • Under the age of 5: in a seat adjacent to their parent, guardian or tutor.
  • Aged 5 to 11: in the same row and separated by no more than one seat from their parent, guardian or tutor.
  • Aged 12 or 13: separated by no more than a row from the parent, guardian or tutor.

To book your seat with your child, Please contact the Customer Care Center at 1.800.563.2800.

Child Restraint Systems (car seats)

A confirmed PAL Airlines ticket must be purchased for your child if you wish for them to travel in a Transport Canada approved infant restraint device on board our aircraft.

The following child restraint devices may be used on a PAL Airlines plane provided they have the following label:

Canadian manufactured systems:

A compliance label must be affixed stating the system has been certified to the Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 213 or 213.1, and indicating the date of manufacture as being after January 1, 1981.

American manufactured systems:

For systems manufactured American standards between January 1, 1981 and February 25, 1985, a label must be affixed stating: “This child restraint system conforms to all applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards” (FMVSS).

For systems manufactured after February 26, 1985, two (2) labels are required:

1) “This child restraint system conforms to all applicable FMVSS” and

2) “CERTIFIED FOR USE IN MOTOR VEHICLES AND AIRCRAFT” in red lettering.

PAL Airlines will also accept, for use on board our aircrafts, a new child restraint system, Child Aviation Restraint System (CARES). This device is harnessed into the seat belt on board our aircraft and can be used as an alternative to the child restraint system. This device can be used by children at least one year of age and between 20-44 lbs and up to 40 inches in height.

Unfortunately, we do not allow booster seats to be used on board.

Expecting Mothers

Expectant mothers are permitted to travel on PAL Airlines up until their 35th week of pregnancy with no restrictions. Women whose pregnancies are between 36 and 38 weeks will require a medical note from their doctor. PAL Airlines cannot accept expectant mothers past 39 weeks as per standard airline policy.

PAL Airlines may not be able to transport the passenger’s baggage.

Boarding

PAL Airlines pre-boarding provides any unaccompanied minors, passengers with small children, or any passengers in need of assistance the opportunity to board the aircraft at their own pace. This also allows them to get settled in their seats and their baggage stowed prior to PAL Airlines general boarding.

Should you require assistance our friendly customer service agents will be more than happy to assist you, please just identify yourself to the agent at the PAL Airlines counter during check in.
