Medical Fares
PAL Airlines is happy to offer Medical & Escort fares. All Medical & Escort fares must be booked through the PAL Airlines Customer Care and Reservations Centre office by calling 1-800-563-2800. There are certain PAL Airlines policies and procedures that must be followed for all passengers traveling under the medical fare.
You may qualify for the Medical Fare:
- You have a scheduled or emergent medical appointment.
- You can provide medical appointment verification.
You may qualify for an escort if:
- You have a letter from your medical practitioner stating the requirement for an escort.
All travelers traveling under the medical & escort fare are required to present proof of medical appointment at the Check in counter prior to departure.
If an escort for medical travel is required, the escort is eligible for the same medical fare as the individual traveling for the medical procedure.
How To Book:
- All Medical and Escort fares must be booked through the PAL Airlines Customer Care & Reservations office by calling 1-800-563-2800.
- Email your medical appointment verification to customer.service@palairlines.ca
- If you are traveling with an escort, email the letter from your medical practitioner stating the requirement for an escort to customer.service@palairlines.ca
- If appointment verification can not be provided before travel, we will book you the lowest published fare available. If verification of the appointment is received within 7 days of travel, PAL Airlines will adjust the fare and refund the credit balance if applicable.

Bereavement Fares
PAL Airlines bereavement fares are available, but must be booked through the PAL Airlines Customer Care and Reservations Centre, for more information please call the PAL Airlines reservations line at 1.800.563.2800.
Our Bereavement Policy applies to:
- Bereavement fares are available for Immediate family only.
- Flights marketed and operated by PAL Airlines.
- Bereavement travel that occurs within 10 days of booking and that does not exceed 60 days.
Who is considered immediate family?
- Spouse (common law, same sex partners and ex-spouse)
- Child (step/grand/great grand)
- Parent (step/grand/great grand/in-law/common law in-law)
- Sibling (step/half/in-law/common law and in-law)
- Legal guardian and spouse of legal guardian (with proof of judgement)
Proof of death is required at time of booking.
The Customer Services and Reservation Centre will ask individuals using the Bereavement Fare to provide the name of the dying or deceased family member and your relationship to them, as well as:
- The name of the hospital or residence, including the address and phone number and name of attending physician; or
- The name, address and phone number of the memorial or funeral home, including the date of the memorial service or funeral.
Post travel proof of bereavement:
Within 7 days of returning from your bereavement travel, please email customer.service@palairlines.ca with your reservation number in the subject line.
- To the email, attach one of the following supporting documents as proof of imminent death or bereavement.
- A copy of the death certificate
- The funeral director’s statement
- The coroner’s statement
- The registration of death (issued by a provincial government)
- A letter from the treating physician on official letterhead and/or a prescription pad which clearly defines the situation as one of imminent death of your immediate family member
Student
Peak Travel Post Secondary Travel Fare
PAL Airlines is happy to support post-secondary students by offering discounted fares throughout the year designed to make travel to and from school more affordable and accessible.
Eligibility Criteria:
- You are a post-secondary student enrolled in a recognized post-secondary institution.
- You are required to travel between your hometown and your post-secondary institution.
- Your travel takes place in September, December, April, and June.
How To Book:
- Contact the PAL Airlines Customer Care & Reservations centre by calling 1-800-563-2800 to book your flight.
- Provide proof of enrollment by emailing your enrollment letter to customer.service@palairlines.ca at time of booking or prior to departure.
Important Information:
- The program is designed to support travel at the start and end of school terms, as well as during holiday breaks
- Discounted fares are exclusively available on flights marketed and operated by PAL Airlines.
- All booking under this program must be made directly through the PAL Airlines Customer Care & Reservations Team.
- Failure to provide proof of enrolment will result in the ticket being reissued at full fare price. This must be paid prior to departure
Off-Peak Travel Post Secondary Travel Fare
Additionally, PAL Airlines is thrilled to provide students with a 10% discount on all PAL Airlines flights throughout the year, outside the specified four months!
Book online using the promo code “STUDENT” or call our Reservations Centre and mention you are a student.
Eligibility criteria:
- Must present student ID or proof of enrolment at check in counter. If no student ID or proof of enrolment provided, the traveler will be responsible for paying the discounted amount prior to departure.
The number of student fares is limited per flight.
Seniors Discount
PAL Airlines is excited to offer seniors a 10% discount on all PAL Airlines flights!

Eligibility criteria:
- Must be 60 years or older.
- Companion travellers are eligible for the same discounted rate.
- If no proof of age is provided, the traveler will be responsible for paying the discounted amount prior to departure.
Quebec Regional Air Transportation Plan
The Regional Air Transportation Plan, offered by the Quebec Ministry of Transportation, aims to support regional accessibility throughout the entire province of Quebec.
As of February 2, 2025, the Quebec Government provides a discount of between 50% and 85% on the price of tickets for travelers travelling within Quebec. The destinations PAL Airlines serves and their corresponding discounts are outlined below:

Purchasing Conditions
Before making a reservation, please note the following conditions:
- Reservations for this special fare must be made through palairlines.ca or through the Customer Care and Reservations call centre.
- This fare only applies to personal travel and not for business or work purposes. The ticket cannot be reimbursed by either an employer or a corporation.
- Each passenger can book a maximum of 6 one-way tickets (3 round trips) per fiscal year, from April 1 to March 31.
- Reservations can be made up to a maximum of 6 months before the travel date.
- Tickets are valid for a period of one year.
- The personal information collected during the reservation will be sent to the Ministère des Transports for the purpose of verifying compliance with the elements listed above.
- In the event of a false declaration, the passenger may be excluded from the PAAR and will be responsible for reimbursing the sums paid by the Ministère des Transports to the carriers for the reduction in the cost of the ticket.
- A limited number of subsidized tickets are sold monthly, therefore, the available quantity may have run out by the time you want to make a reservation. New tickets will be made available the following month.
- The program is not retroactive, meaning, tickets purchased before the program came into effect will not be eligible for a refund of the fare difference.
- This fare is only valid on scheduled flights, it does not apply to charter flights.
How to Reserve Online

Students
As part of the Regional Air Transportation Plan, full-time students can access these fares when traveling for student activities. If a student’s parent or guardian lives in one of the eligible locations, they are entitled to unlimited use of this fare.

Military Discount
PAL Airlines is excited to offer activate Military, Veterans, Reserves, and Rangers a 10% discount on all PAL Airlines flights!

Eligibility criteria:
- Must be an active Military Member, or a Veteran, Reserve, or Ranger and must present their Canadian Military Identification at the check in counter.
At the check in counter travellers using this discount are required to present their Canadian Military Identification at the check in counter:
- DND ID card for National Defense (NDI 20)
- Record of Service Card (NDI 75)
- Any Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) Benefit Card
- Discharge Certificate from any branch of the Canadian Military
- Statement of Service from any branch of the Canadian Military
- Certificate of Service (CF 54 or CF 75) from any branch of the Canadian Military
- Valid DND Temporary ID card (NDI 10)
- Canadian Forces or Former member CFOne card with CF or V (accompanied by photo ID)
- Membership Card from the National Association of Federal Retirees bearing the mention Canadian Armed Forces Veteran (accompanied by photo ID)
Checked Baggage for Military:
Eligible members are entitled to check up to 2 pieces of checked baggage, up to a combined weight of 50 lbs free of charge. Should they check in more than the allowance noted above, excess baggage must be clearly tagged with an excess baggage spur tag but not charged the associated fees. The allowance is applicable to the member of the military and is valid for both personal and duty travel.
Fare Classes
Basic
- Tickets sold are final sale.
- Tickets are non-transferrable, non-refundable, and non-creditable.
- 1st checked bag is $40 – $46 CDN; 2nd checked bag is $80 – $92 CDN.
- Failure to show up for any flight segment will result in the cancellation of that flight segment and all remaining segments not flown. The fare, charges and taxes paid for these cancelled segments will be forfeited and compensation will not be issued.
Standard
- Tickets sold can be changed or cancelled at least 24 hours prior to your flight. Only credits will be offered.
- Changes: A change fee of $100 – $115 CDN will apply per change, per passenger, for name changes or routing. For changes to routing, fare difference may apply if applicable. Changes are allowed only on the same or higher fare class.
- Cancellation: Cancellation Fee: $100 – $115 CDN. Balance on hold for one year from original purchase date.
- 1st checked bag is $20 – $23 CDN; 2nd checked bag is $40 – $46 CDN plus additional provincial taxes.
- Failure to show up for any flight segment will result in the cancellation of that flight segment and all remaining segments not flown. The fare, charges and taxes paid for these cancelled segments will be forfeited and compensation will not be issued.
Flexible
- Tickets sold can be changed or cancelled at least 24 hours prior to your flight. Only credits will be offered.
- Changes: A change fee of $50 – $57.5 CDN will apply per change, per passenger, for name changes or routing. For changes to routing, fare difference may apply if applicable. Changes are allowed only on the same or higher fare class.
- 1st checked bag is free; 2nd checked bag is $40 – $46 CDN.
- Failure to show up for any flight segment will result in the cancellation of that flight segment and all remaining segments not flown. The fare, charges and taxes paid for these cancelled segments will be forfeited and compensation will not be issued.
Freedom
- Fare class is fully refundable when cancelled at least 24 hours prior to your flight. Cancellations between 24 and 2 hours prior to scheduled flight time will result in credits being offered.
- Changes: Changes to name and routing are free. For changes to routing, fare difference may apply if applicable. Changes are allowed only on the same or higher fare class.
- 1st and 2nd checked bags are free
- Failure to show up for any flight segment will result in the cancellation of that flight segment and all remaining segments not flown. The fare, charges and taxes paid for these cancelled segments will be forfeited and compensation will not be issued.
Refundable Fares
- If you have purchased a Freedom fare and wish to cancel for a refund, please complete the Refund Form.
- Basic, Standard, and Flexible fares are only eligible for credits.
- Exceptions may apply in the event of a flight disruption. Please reach out to our Customer Care and Reservations Centre for more details if you have any questions.
Taxes, Fees, and Charges
Air Transportation Charges
Landing Fee: As a result of the Government imposed landing fee in September 2015, a landing fee tax is added to ticket prices for passengers travelling to Postville (YSO), Makkovik (YMN), Hopedale (YHO), Nain (YDP), Rigolet (YRG), Williams Harbour (YWM), Black Tickle (YBI), Charlottetown (YHG), St. Lewis (YFX), Port Hope Simpson (YHA), Cartwright (YCA) and Mary’s Harbour (YMH). This fee is for landing only and will not be added to tickets departing these coastal locations.
Government Fees
Air Travellers Security Charge: The Canadian Government charges Air Travellers Security to flights between the designated airports in Canada where air travel security services are provided by Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA).
Airport Fees
Airport Improvement Fees are additional fees charged to departing and connecting passengers at an airport. It is levied by Transport Canada or an airport management corporation; the proceeds are usually intended for funding of major airport improvements or expansion or airport service. PAL Airlines collects these fees at the time of ticketing on behalf of the airports; these are reflected in the additional charges portion of your fare. Applicable taxes will be added to each Airport Improvement Fee.
Taxes refer to Goods and Services Tax (GST); Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) in the provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador and New Brunswick; Quebec Sales Tax (QST) in the province of Quebec.
